You’re Going to Love These 4 Museums In Ohio!
Ohio State Reformatory
One of the most famous museums in Central Ohio is by far the Ohio State Reformatory. You’ll be blown away by the impressive Victorian Building as soon as you get there. This prison was built in 1886 and used to be the home of more than 155,000 men before it closed its doors in 1990. Did you know it was also the filming location of one of the most iconic Oscar-winning movies of all time? Indeed, the Shawshank Redemption with Martin Freeman was shot within these walls, and you can walk in the actors’ footsteps as you follow the Shawshank Trail Tour!
Bucyrus Historical Society
Who said you had to drive for hours to find an amazing museum in Ohio? We have one right here in our lovely town of Bucyrus. The Bucyrus Historical Society might be small, but it’s a gem for true History lovers. Discover an impressive collection of artifacts such as paintings, statues, furniture, and more within a gorgeous Victorian building.
Wyandot Popcorn Museum
If, like us, you have a sweet tooth for popcorn, then the Wyandot Popcorn Museum in the nearby town of Marion is made for you. Did you know it’s the only museum in the world dedicated to popcorn? It opened in 1982 and displays various antique poppers and other fun artifacts. If you’re visiting in September, make sure you check out their Popcorn Festival as well!
Harding Home Presidential Site
Last but not least, you can explore the home of one of the most famous presidents of the beginning of the 20th century: Warren G. Harding. He was an Ohio native, and you can step into his home as if you were one of his guests. The Harding Home features an impressive collection of original items that belonged to the president and his family (more than 5,000!), some even coming from the White House! We recommend hopping on a guided tour. The guides are extremely knowledgeable and will tell you amazing anecdotes and details!
